Registration and Licence
The DVLA requires all road legal bikes to be registered, taxed and insured.
We will take care of all aspects of registering and taxing your new bike for you! Our quoted prices includes all registration costs, 12 months road tax and fitted number plates ! You will automatically receive your V5 owners logbook from the DVLA shortly after purchase. Many of our new bikes are pre-registered and PDI'd and can be ridden away immediately.
Licence Requirements for 50cc and 125cc Mopeds, Scooters and Motorbikes
Anyone who has a full car driving licence passed before 1st February 2001 can ride a 50cc 'moped' class (max 31mph, not exceeding 50cc) without 'L' Plates for as long as their car licence is valid and can carry a passenger. This is all you can ride with ONLY a car licence. All of our 50cc road bikes are 'moped' class as standard.
Anyone without the above must have a minimum of a provisional driving licence and complete a CBT (compulsory basic training) session before they can ride legally on public roads. A CBT is a simple training session run by motorcycle training schools to offer basic instructions to new riders and will cost approx £90 lasting between 2-6 hrs depending on the school. After a CBT has been completed any bike up to 125cc (max 14hp) can be ridden provided 'L' plates are displayed and no passenger is carried. 16yr old riders are further restricted to 50cc 'moped' class bikes (max 31mph) until they are 17. The CBT will last for 2yrs and must then be re-taken unless the rider chooses to go on to take a full class bike test (not discussed here). If however the rider subsequently passes his car driving test (s)he will be able to continue to ride a 50cc 'moped' class bike until the car licence expires and without 'L' plates.
